As a tradition of Bokeh Story Photos, I design and plan each session to suit each client’s unique needs. This family session is no exception. Doug contacted me about doing an on location family session with his entire family – mom Lisa , dad Merritt, older brother Kevin, younger sister Rebecca, and her son James. I asked him to answer a few questions as a starting point to design his personalized family session. Things I normally ask would be
The thought process of a concept shoot or custom photography is very similar to the brainstorming stage in the design process. After I heard back from Doug, I came up with a list of ideas that we would use on the actual family session.
Doug’s dad Merrit is a retired air force electrical engineer. He volunteers at the red cross during his free time. I thought it would be meaningful if he could bring something related to the red cross. Merrit did bring a red cross vest that day! It was the perfect prop for him.
Doug’s mom Lisa is also retired. She enjoys talking on the phone and drinking Coke using a straw. Doug thought it would be fun to take a picture of her drinking Coke using colorful straws, so she brought a can of color straws and a can of Coke.
Doug’s brother Kevin is a computer programmer. He enjoys riding motorcycles and brews his own beer. These would be hard to bring it over to an on location shoot. Kevin also has a sweet dog Ruby. He brought her to the session.
Doug is a professional healthcare IT consultant specialize in radiology solutions. He travels for work and enjoys hiking, so I asked him to bring his hiking gears especially a binocular.
Doug’s little sister Rebecca lives in Scremento, CA. She brought her son James flying all the way from CA to see her family. Rebecca has her masters in sociology. She loves to sew and she makes lots of clothes. The red shirt that Doug was wearing was made by Rebecca. Rebecca and her husband have a 4 year old son James. He enjoys digging holes and running around.
Lisa and Merritt are just too cute together. Merrit looks like the best grandpa to a little boy. I had so much fun shooting with this sweet family. I wish I could know them more.
