It has been a busy and fun summer. We’ve taken Audrey and Wesley to Virginia to see my mom in early July followed by another weekend trip to Iowa City to attend a good friend’s wedding. They did great in both road trips. This is also my first time to Iowa city. I truly this college town. It reminds me my college town Blacksburg, VA. Since we only had two and half days in town, we had to take any opportunity to explore town. Audrey was the youngest flower girl for the wedding, so we were in both rehearsal and wedding.
We made the effort to walk in downtown Iowa City the morning of the wedding. Kids are so excited to see Herky in different outfits in downtown. This big bird is the mascot for University of Iowa just like Hokie for Virginia Tech. Audrey had so much fun posing with Herky on the street. There are all kinds of neat statues, phone booths, and scences in this college town. I really like that the campus is spread out in downtown Iowa City. It feels like a mixture of Seattle and Washington, DC. We also found a really neat mural where Audrey and Wesley had tons of fun taking pictures in front of it. At the end of the street tour, we went to have ice cream in Coldstone Creamry. We got mint and mango ice cream, but both of them loved the mint and were fighting over it. I love mint also, so three of us shared the mint. Wesley learned that sharing is caring and were happy to share his mint ice cream with Audrey and mommy. Daddy got to enjoy the mango ice cream all by himself.
It was a fun little weekend trip about 4 hours away from Kansas City. Iowa City, we definitely will visit you again!
