This is one special session for all of us. John and I started our current day job the same day – we were in the same start group almost 10 years ago. We still work for the same company and we both feel proud of being part of this big family. John has a beautiful daughter Julianne and a handsome baby boy Jack. Julianne just turned six and she was another flower girl in a wedding with Audrey. They also filmed a marketing video together for our day job’s annual conference.
As usual, we planned to do lots of candids shots of the Bertics, but only do a couple posed shots for Christmas cards. It was such a chilly morning that we could not predict. We started at 8:30am to dodge the harsh sunlight on a sunny day. Baby Jack just turned three months and he still sleeps a lot in the day, so we followed his schedule. I started with a formal family pose, then mommy and son interaction with daddy and girl blurred in the background. John is such a good daddy. He made baby Jack smile, laugh, and giggle in a lot of shots. Baby Jack was really having fun for that 15 minutes. Babies do not pretend or lie. Jack told us he was tired and needed a nap right after playing with daddy, so mommy put him back to the stroller. Then I asked Julianne to play with her mommy Heather. They were dancing together and playing leaves together for a few minutes before Julianne got really cold. She started crying. I know we had to end this part of the session here. I offered to shoot the second half in the afternoon and the Bertics agreed. We all know that babies and kids are our boss when it comes to a photo session.
It was such a sunny afternoon and we only have one hour to fit into both our busy schedule. I took the Bertics to my favorite trail, where has a lot of trees to cover part of the brightness. We also started with one formal pose. Then we continued with father and daughter interaction. I can tell how much Julianne loves her daddy. They were playing, dancing, and Julianne hopped on John’s back. I caught lots of sweet moments. The only candids we missed from there was the sibling interaction. Since baby Jack is only three months, so I asked Julianne to sit on the grass and hold baby brother and took a few shots. Finally we ended the session with a few head shots of Julianne alone and some mother daughter candids. I am never a fan of posed family sessions. I just love a lot of these candid shots from this session. I hope the Bertics would love these images as well.
