My little girl is growing so fast. I was going through her closet one day and found there are so many clothes that she hasn’t even worn and she will outgrown of them very soon. What can I do about this? We have to wear it at least once, right? Let’s take some studio outfit photos! I picked out ten outfits and matching hair accessories. We shot ten outfits within 2 hours. That would not happen if it was last year. She takes directions really well and always has her own ideas. I just give her one simple idea, and she will derive other poses based on that idea. She really enjoys posing and modeling. These are the first five outfits we shot that day.
I had so much fun shooting with this multi-talented girl. Before the session, we brainstormed the concept of this session for a while, and I decided to focuses on her talents. We shot at the beautiful historical Liberty downtown. While waiting for my session, I took pictures of Huey’s on the Square and Clay County Historical Museum. It was my first time meeting Katherine. I was very impressed with all her talents, including her skills to style her outfits, doing her own makeup, and her hair. Her parents were with us during the session and I really enjoyed talking to them while Katherine was changing outfits. Her dad helped us watching traffic while we took a shot of Katherine dancing in the middle of Main St. At the end of...
One of my really good friends is going to have her first baby! Remember this gorgeous couple that got married two years ago? Nancy and John are beautiful from inside to out. They are expecting their first baby. It’s a girl! They already have a name picked out. Her name is Mia. Mia was also on my list of girl names when we were picking out names for our little girl. Nancy wanted a really natural looking maternity session that she is able to show everyone. At first I thought we could shoot in a park as for natural setting. After driving to the actual park a few days before the session, I was so disappointed. It is still too cold and there was no leaves or grass in the...
Remember baby Elliott from his fresh 48, newborn, and three months sessions? Yes, this is the fourth time I am photographing baby Elliott. We had an impression that baby Elliott did not like my camera in the past two sessions, so his parents and I were a little nervous about this session. His mommy and daddy did tell me that he is getting a lot better with camera and will smile. That made me feel a lot better. Our discussion on the theme of this session started before he was born. Baby’s daddy is a serious gamer. He wanted to do a gaming themed session with baby Elliott. Maybe this baby is a natural gamer like his daddy. He seemed really comfortable sitting in our setup. I let his parents...
This is the third time I am photographing baby Eli. I first met him when he was only 9 days old from his lifestyle newborn session. He has been such a good baby since the beginning. Then his mommy Michelle brought him to see me at his 8 months studio session. In that story, I said that I never saw a baby as photogenic and cooperative as Eli. He sat still in the studio “reading books”. He was a little tired after 30 minutes, but was ON FIRE after I gave him some yogurt melts. This time we are celebrating his upcoming one year old. Michelle wanted to do an outdoor family session with the fall leaves. She invited me to their lake house in the beautiful Weatherby Lake area....
This is one special session for all of us. John and I started our current day job the same day – we were in the same start group almost 10 years ago. We still work for the same company and we both feel proud of being part of this big family. John has a beautiful daughter Julianne and a handsome baby boy Jack. Julianne just turned six and she was another flower girl in a wedding with Audrey. They also filmed a marketing video together for our day job’s annual conference. As usual, we planned to do lots of candids shots of the Bertics, but only do a couple posed shots for Christmas cards. It was such a chilly morning that we could not predict. We started at 8:30am to...
It was my pleasure to photograph the Henley’s fall family photos. I met Rachel through a business trip from my day job and became friends. She was just looking for a photographer to take her family pictures, which she has not done for a few years. Rachel has two darling children – William and Morgan. William is six years old and Morgan just turned two. Rachel has warned me that William is very shy and might not getting pictures taken, but I told her that I will use my tricks to get him treats. We planned to take her family session in a trail close to their house – I follow them as they walk. I told her this would work out great for family with small children. My style...
Remember baby Elliott from his lifestyle Fresh 48 and his newborn sessions? He is coming back for his 3 months/fall family photos! I just love seeing babies and kids coming back. Since it’s so beautiful outside, we decided to do an outdoor fall session instead of studio. I took the Warners to my favorite photo spot – a trail in a park where my own family photos were taken last year. Little Elliott had an upset stomach just the night before. We were deciding whether or not to reschedule the session, but his mommy and daddy said he was fine that morning, so we proceeded as planned. The Warners also brought their seven years old dog Max to the session. This would be the first big family session since baby...
This is my third year photographing little Hannah’s birthday session. She was born in December close to Christmas time, so we used to take her birthday photos in early December. As you know Kansas City winter can be freezing cold by Thanksgiving time, so we decided to move her birthday session a little earlier this year. Hannah’s mom and I brainstormed ideas together. We tried to do something different every year as this little girl is growing up. There was a fair at Liberty at the end of September every year – Liberty Fall Fest. They have tons of fun activities such as fair food, carnival rides, and games. I suggested if we want to photograph her birthday at the carnival. Her mom agreed. We got there pretty early to...
Remember this trail from my last year’s family photo? We went there again to shoot a friend’s fall family session this year. Since we are good friends and I need help carrying lots of baby props, so I brought my family with me. My friends wanted their dog Max to be in the photos with their three months baby. Sounds like the most difficult subjects all in one session, plus my own kids. Audrey and Wesley were so excited when they met Max. They started playing with each other. Audrey throws a stick and Max went catching it. They started running and chasing each other. You can really see how happy they are in these candid shots. I was happy to catch these when we were waiting for the baby to...
