Remember that cute little birthday girl with ponytails? Little Hannah was one of my first clients when I first started last year. She’s coming back for her four year old birthday photos! She is just getting prettier and prettier. Her parents prefer on location photo session than studio, so we shot in the freezing woods. Hannah’s mommy put two dresses on her plus a coat. She was still cold, so we wrapped her in a blanket when we change locations. She did really well for the first 30 minutes, but it is really cold and she started crying. That was probably the longest she could handle. I asked if she had breakfast. Her parents said she did not. I suggested a good breakfast place nearby and we all went to...
It was my honor to work with one of the biggest modeling agencies in Kansas City area. The agency is launching a new website soon and requesting all existing models and talents to update their modeling profile pictures. I am one of the four photographers that they selected to work on this project. I met so many talented actors and models through working on this project. As I said before I LOVE shooting models. A lot of them are child models, which works out perfect because I am primarily a child portrait photographer. Since there are so many talents, I will separate this by a few posts. This is Krista Kerschen. She is a print model. This is Caio Nunes – Exposure’s new face. Caio is originally from Brazil –...
Recently I had the honor to shoot a themed photo session with actor Rick Folten. You might not know his name, but you will recognize his face when you see him. He has appeared in over 250 commercials, numerous films, and a few TV series. When Rick first called me to book a full modeling session he asked what kind of idea I had for his session. I told him that I was impressed and touched by his Abbott commercial – Father Daughter Promise. His good father image is deeply inside my head. I said, “why don’t we shoot a father daughter themed story and I will come up with a script.” He liked the idea and told me that he just happened to know a girl whom could play...
Can’t believe 2013 is almost over! I did not take a lot of photos of my own little family because this is the busiest month for me as a portrait photographer. Almost all my weekends were filled with 2-3 fall family sessions plus modeling headshots sessions. I felt like that I reached at my full capacity and did not spend much with my own little family. The only time that I picked up my DSLR and took pictures of my own family were at a friend’s wedding reception. Remember the gorgeous couple Nancy and John that I took the airplane engagement pictures? We did not make it to their San Francisco wedding, but we made to their Kansas City reception. It was great time to see so many of our...
I am so excited to share the story behind this themed family photo session. Kim and I met at our company’s Halloween event. Her family dressed up in Wizard of Oz characters. It was so eye-catchy that I could not resist to take a picture of her family with my point and shoot. My husband suggested to talk to her and send her the photo and I did. I am so glad that I talked to her. We connected on Facebook. It happened that she was looking for a photographer and she picked me. Since her Wizard of Oz figures are so deeply in my mind, I asked if she is interested in a themed family photo session. She said yes. This is by far my favorite family photo session....
Don’t you know how much I love photographing 2-3 months babies? I have to admit that I am not big for newborns. Although they are cute and I can pose them without worrying about get their attention, they are sleeping. I like to interact with babies and small kids during a photo session. Baby Evan just turned 2 months. He is the first baby from the Moll family. Terry – Evan’s father, a new dad asked me to take photos for little Evan. We brainstormed lots of ideas for Evan’s studio session. I have a page full of different setups. Studio session needs a lot more planning than on location because a studio is a big empty box and you have to fill your creativity and imagination to make it...
I had so much fun taking family pictures for the Parkhursts family last weekend. Pamela and Bradley have a cute little boy Graison. He is 18 months old. Pamela said Graison was very good for studio pictures and hope that he would cooperate for the on location family photo shoot. This was Graison’s first photoshoot outdoor and he was so excited about exploring the beautiful location. This is the most colorful time of the year. The leaves are in red, yellow, and orange shades. Graison just couldn’t stop running around. We did lots of candid shots first. He really enjoyed “flying” in the air. The Parkhurst family do this at home to entertain their precious son. Pamela is a full-time mom. Daddy Bradley works really hard to support the family....
As a portrait photographer, I am always the one taking pictures for others. It takes some courage to jump on the other side of the camera and see myself in the pictures. We had our first on location family session taken by Qian Rong Photography. Qian is one of my photographer friends. I will be taking his family photos in Spring 2014. It was such a wonderful experience. Unlike me, Qian does not plan for a session. He observes available light, interaction between subjects, and shoot on the fly. His specialties are candid family shots and sports pictures. He edited 12 images from the session. I told him that I would like to take a stab at editing the session myself and he was so generous to give me the...
I met Daniel a year ago through my day job. He was using a Canon 60D to record a video interviewing one of my co-workers in my pod area. I told him that I have the same camera and we started chatting. He asked where I am originally from. I said China. He started talking to me in Mandarin. I was so shocked that his Mandarin is so good… Daniel grew up in China. His parents still live in Shanghai – my hometown! Daniel and his wife Melinda have three beautiful kids – Hannah 4.5 year old, Caleb 3 year old, and Jaydon 8 months old. The kids are all very close in age like mine. I admire Melinda, who is a full-time mom dedicating all her love to these...
This month’s Project 10×12 becomes 100×12! October is such a special month for my family as I stated in my previous story that Audrey and Wesley were both born in October. My husband and I met in October. There’s no way that I could only share 10 pictures for this month. I reserved 2 weekends not taking any sessions just to spend time with my family. You probably saw a sneak peak of me and Wesley on Bokeh Story Photos facebook fan page. We had our first ever family photos taken by a professional photographer, which I would share next week! My little family went on our first ever road trip to a nearby resort in Excelsior Springs on Wesley’s birthday. This little town is known by its natural spring...
