Fall is my favorite season because of so many reasons, but the biggest 3 are: I met my husband in fall 2002 Audrey was born Oct 2010 Wesley was born Oct 2011 We did not have a birthday party for Audrey this year. Since grandparents are staying with us, we took a fall family trip to a local pumpkin patch on Audrey’s birthday. I had my camera with me and snapped lots of pictures. Both candid and posed. The kids had so much fun there that day. We wrapped up Audrey’s birthday by blowing candles and eating the birthday cake. It was a simple but good birthday.

Invited by my friend Carole, I had the pleasure to shoot for Eisterhold Associates Inc almost two months ago and I finally got the permission to share the photos. Eisterhold Associates is an exhibit design and planning firm specializing in museums and interpretive experiences. Among their senior associates they hold some 250 years of creative experience in master planning and exhibition design. They are particularly well known for site-specific media and interactives. Projects include: The National Civil Rights Museum Harry S. Truman Presidential Museum The Rosa Parks Museum and Children’s Wing The Civil Rights Memorial Center Jurassic Park Discovery Center Federal Reserve Banks Father Flanagan’s Boys Home Center for Technology and Innovation The design studio is led by president Gerard (Jerry) Eisterhold. As a tradition of Bokeh Story Photos, I design and plan each session to suit each client’s unique needs. This family session is no exception. Doug contacted me about doing an on location family session with his entire family – mom Lisa , dad Merritt, older brother Kevin, younger sister Rebecca, and her son James. I asked him to answer a few questions as a starting point to design his personalized family session. Things I normally ask would be Name of each family member Relation to you Occupation Hobby/Interest Fun thing you do as a family Things/props that are meaningful to your family members The thought process of a concept shoot or custom photography is very similar to the brainstorming stage in the design process. After I heard back from...

Today my daughter Audrey turns 3! I am in tears because she is our first child and we all love her so much! The story goes all the way back to the beginning of 2010. I was going through a series diagnosis of a big thyroid nodule with 70% chance of being cancer. The surgery was schedule at the beginning of March, 2010. One week before the original surgery date, I found out that I was pregnant! I was not able to conceive due to the thyroid nodule and also hashimoto disease, so I could not even believe that I was pregnant. My surgeon and care team worked with me on rescheduling my surgery to second trimester. I could only wait and pray that the baby would be okay after...

As many of you know, I always plan my sessions ahead of time. This time the planning took more than a month and our agenda went through 6 iterations of changes. I worked closely with the parents of the senior and herself. We identified that we would go for 3 looks/outfits. Starting with a fresh casual look of straight hair and light makeup. She would like to wear a fitted t-shirt, jeans, and a scarf. I also lined up a professional makeup artist/hair stylist to get her dolled up! The makeup artist does great fashion editorial work. You could see how natural the first look is. We shot the first part just outside of my studio in Kansas City downtown started very early in the morning when there was almost...

Can’t believer September is almost over. This is so far my busiest month this year. It is so  hard to find time to take pictures of my own little family. Ever started I got into studio lighting, I go to my studio every weekend, which make it even harder to spend time with my little ones. My husband had a great idea to bring the kids to the studio. It was Labor Day weekend and my mom came to visit us in town. She demanded pictures with her grand babies, so we all went to my studio. It is so hard to light a white background with just 2 lights because it would turn grey most likely. It takes at least 4-5 lights to light a white background. Audrey as...

Baby Daniel is coming back for his 2 months milestone session! He was such an active newborn that he was awake throughout his entire newborn session, but for a 2 months old he totally rocked this session! He was so good and strong that he could hold his head up for a couple seconds. His mom said that he is rolling over at 2 months! I have never heard this before. Baby Daniel’s big sister Brianna and brother Joseph also came to see me. They played with Audrey while we were working hard in the studio. Audrey and Joseph became friends after this session! I love it when clients become friends and our kids could have play dates!

Remember this girl? She is the talented Kendra – the youngest vendor at Payton’s Closet in Liberty downtown. She had her jaw surgery a couple months ago and now she is reborn! So glad to see Kendra back! Only 14, Kendra is a straight A student in school, a cheerleader, an artist who designs and makes her own hair bow. She also does a great job on makeup and hair and even help other cheerleaders on the team to do hair and makeup. Kendra curled her own hair and did her own makeup for the first classic look. It’s totally what I was looking for!  The first look was all done with using one light. The reason why I fell in love with studio photography is that I could learn lighting...
