Eliott’s Fresh 48 | Kansas City Lifestyle Photographer

I had the honor to photograph baby Eliott’s first 48 hours in Shawnee Mission Birthing Center. After more than 24 hours labor, new mommy Suzy was exhausted. So do new daddy Kendell. Baby Elioot is their first baby. I could imagine how excited they are to welcome him to this world.

Baby Elliott was having a rough day when we were shooting his Fresh 48. He was awake almost the entire time, but that’s okay. Fresh 48 is all about capturing the interaction among family members with the newborn baby. Suzy was already doing a great job feeding and burping her baby. Kendell also took the tough job – diaper changing. I could feel the love between Suzy and Kendell.

This is the firs time that I brought Audrey to a shoot. She did really well in the small hospital room watching me working. Not to mention that she has seen uncle Kendell and auntie Suzy for a couple times, she was super excited to meet the baby. It was not easy for a three year old to sit still and not to “break” anything for 2 and half hours.

Baby Elliott was still not falling asleep and we wanted to do the macro shots. I asked if I could swaddle him. I still remembered how to swaddle babies from my own experiences. Suzy said that I swaddled Elliott tight and even faster than the nurses. Baby Elliott was definitely a strong and active baby. He was trying to get out of the swaddle when I was wrapping him. Finally we shot the rings on toes macro image when he was awake. I had to ask his daddy to hold his feet still, so I could snap the macro images.

Right before we left, I took a picture for baby Elliott with his grandma. Grandma flew all the way from Brooklyn, NY to meet Elliott. How sweet is this moment? I like lifestyle newborn pictures and Fresh 48 hospital sessions. To me these mean a lot more than the boutique super posed newborn pictures.
