I met Daniel a year ago through my day job. He was using a Canon 60D to record a video interviewing one of my co-workers in my pod area. I told him that I have the same camera and we started chatting. He asked where I am originally from. I said China. He started talking to me in Mandarin. I was so shocked that his Mandarin is so good…
Daniel grew up in China. His parents still live in Shanghai – my hometown! Daniel and his wife Melinda have three beautiful kids – Hannah 4.5 year old, Caleb 3 year old, and Jaydon 8 months old. The kids are all very close in age like mine. I admire Melinda, who is a full-time mom dedicating all her love to these three kids and her husband.
During the session, the kids were speaking a few Chinese words like “Qiezi 茄子”, which means eggplant. This is the word we usually say in China when we take pictures. The pronunciation of the words would make your mouth and face a perfect shape for smiling. Hannah also said “Yeye爷爷 Nainai奶奶”, which means grandpa and grandma. She said these pictures will go to grandparents in Shanghai. Daniel also brought some Chinese umbrella as props. One umbrella has the word “Chen 陈” on it. This is his Chinese last name. Chen is my husband Billy’s last name, which is also Audrey and Wesley’s last name!
I just feel so happy that I could meet Daniel’s family. Daniel himself is a professional multimedia designer and videographer. He also takes great pictures. After viewing my photography work and chatting about it for months, he asked me to take pictures for his family. I am so honored to do this for his family. I am pretty confident that our families will see each other more often in the future.
